Mainland students holding a "Stay (D)" endorsement must complete the application for an "Exceptional Leave to Remain" permit after being granted entry into Hong Kong, within the prescribed period of stay. This permit is the legal document required for students to reside and study lawfully in Hong Kong.

FAQ

1How soon after first entry must I apply?

Must be completed within the permitted stay period (up to 90 days) after first entry using the "Stay D" endorsement.

2What happens if you don't complete the process within 90 days?

If you can present proof of enrollment at an Australian university (such as a valid student ID) upon re-entry, you may be granted temporary admission and notified in writing to complete the process by a specified date. Failure to provide such proof may result in denial of entry.

3What should I do if I lose my "Special Permission to Stay Receipt"?

You may reprint at any service location of the Public Security Police Force.

4What do I need to do after changing my ID?

Visit the branch where you stayed as soon as possible to update your information and obtain a new receipt.

5Do you need to declare your address?

Permits held for more than 90 days must state a contact address and habitual residence in Macao. You must notify the authorities within 45 days of any address change; failure to do so may result in a fine.
